Vanilla apple pie

Add a plate of shortbread and some whipped cream for a pared-down take on the real thing.
3 apples, stalks removed or 250 ml (1 cup) apple juice
200 g (7 oz) canned pie apple
2 scoops vanilla ice cream
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon natural vanilla extract (essence)
ground cinnamon or freshly grated nutmeg, to serve, optional

Juice the apples through a juice extractor. Blend the juice, pie apple, ice cream, cinnamon and vanilla in a blender until smooth. Serve sprinkled with cinnamon or nutmeg, if desired. Make 2 medium glasses.
